Rigorous Honest Meeting Update

As many of you know, because of security issues the First Congregational Church has closed access to church facilities at 6:30 PM every day. This unfortunate situation came about because doors were carelessly left open by some meetings and lock codes were freely given out to too many people. The result was outsiders were coming into the church, sleeping there, taking food from church refrigerators and cooking it, etc. If nothing else, the situation posed a liability issue and the church needed to deal with it.

I spoke with a church employee this morning and was told that their Board would meet within a few days to come to a final decision about what steps they need to take to secure the facility. She assured me that the church wants to continue to support 12-Step meetings, and will do everything possible to do so while also maintaining the church’s security. I left my contact information and expect an update by this time next week on whatever the meeting’s requirements will be and the schedule for the church to make any necessary physical changes.

I got the impression that we will be allowed back into the Fireplace Room as soon as possible. Meanwhile, we will continue to meet at the Alano club.

I will add that the Church employee indicated she knew that Rigorous Honesty had for years been reliable, responsible guests of the church and that she knew we were not responsible for the current situation. I assured her we would make every effort to continue that record, and that we certainly appreciate the privilege of meeting there.

I will send out an update as soon as I get new information. Until something changes, I hope to see you at our temporary meeting location, the Alano club, on Wednesday nights. I’m grateful for that, too.

Directions to Haskell’s Beach from 101 North…

1.  Take Highway 101 North, exit at Winchester Canyon.

2.  Proceed straight until the stop sign at Cathedral Oaks Rd.

3.  Turn left at Cathedral Oaks, and you’ll be crossing 101 over the bridge towards ocean/golf course.

4.  Take a right at the next stop sign, and follow the signs towards the Bacara Resort.

5.  Look for “Beach access” signs, and you will see a parking lot on your left after about a half mile.

6.  Park in the lot and follow the path towards the beach.

7.  Once you reach the beach, head south (turn left) and walk down the beach and you will find us about 150 yards down.

OR… you can take the path to the left of the building on the beach (the path forks BEFORE the building and the beach).

8.  Follow the path until it starts to curve left, it will drop you onto the beach and we will be about 100 yards south of there (you should see the 🔥 from there)

Hope this helps. 😌

To get Haskell’s Beach, follow the directions to the Bacara Resort & Spa and look for the coastal access/beach parking lot on the left. Walk down the Public Access Trail which has informational signs along the way provided by the California Coastal Commission.
